Spring, 2012

Week of 5/14

Jr. High Math

Hello, Saint Lawrence community! I expect all of my students to put in a full effort with the main goal of making this a truly productive school year. With less than one quarter remaining until the end of the school year, all classes continue to be in full mathematical mode. Now that we are quickly approaching the end of the school year, the subject matter will get more involved in each class. Accordingly, my expectations will increase as the school year moves toward June.

Grade 6

This week, we will finish working in Chapter 10 (Ratios, Proportions, and Percents). We will learn about percents. More specifically, we will convert fractions and decimals to percents and vice versa. We will also find the percents of numbers. There will be a QUIZ on Thursday on percents.

Grade 7

This week, we will move our studies to Chapter 11: Geometry (solids, circles, and transformations). We will make circle graphs. Also, we will discuss the meaning of pi and find the circumference and area of circles. There will be a QUIZ next week.

Grade 8

This week, we will work in Chapter 11, radical expressions and equations. We will simplify radicals involving products and quotients. Additionally, we will add, subtract, multiply, and divide radicals. Lastly, we will solve equations containing radicals. There will be a QUIZ next week.

ALGEBRA STUDENTS PLEASE NOTE: Every section in the book has an online "Homework Help" option where you may find additional examples and a virtual tutorial about the day's lesson. For example, this week we will study section 11-1, simplifying radicals. On page 620, you will find a website and a web code for the day's lesson. You will receive extra help with the homework if you visit the site and type the code into the appropriate boxes.
